EU Restores Mauritania Aid

The European Commission has fully re-established its ties with Mauritania after shelving its aid for the African nation following a coup in August 2008. The move allows for the implementation of the bloc’s national program for Mauritania worth 156 million euros (USD212 million), which covers governance, infrastructure and migration projects, as well as budget support. The European Investment Bank has also restored funding for new projects, particularly in the mining sector.
