Program Officer Aga Khan Foundation U.S.A. (AKF USA) is a private, non-denominational, non-profit international development organization committed to alleviating poverty, hunger, disease and illiteracy, primarily in Africa and Asia. Its mission is to strengthen the capacity of grassroots communities to solve their own problems and to promote opportunities that lead to long-term improvements in income, health, education and the sustainability of local organizations and the environment. The Program Officer will be responsible for grants/awards management, reporting, technical assistance, new program development and cultivation and maintenance of partnerships related to a diverse portfolio of Foundation programs, which may include one or more of the following technical areas: reconstruction and development in conflict sensitive zones, rural livelihoods, small enterprise development and civil society programs. This is a mid-level professional/technical position. Primary duties and responsibilities: ng U.S.-funded awards to ensure that all internal and donor agency technical and reporting requirements are met. the lead and supporting team members in identifying, cultivating and developing new funding opportunities. ng all aspects of new proposal development, submission and negotiation with funding agencies to support program needs. ing technical assistance to Foundation partners related to monitoring, evaluation and learning.
General requirements include demonstrated experience/ability to manage the technical components of federal grants and awards from one or more of the following agencies: USAID, USDA, or U.S. Department of State. Knowledge of applicable federal agency procurement rules and regulations for a variety of award types a plus. Masters degree in public administration, economics or one of the program areas mentioned above required. 8-10 years experience backstopping multi-sectoral programs at a reputable nonprofit organization is required. At least 3 years supervisory/team leader experience strongly preferred. Well-developed organizational skills, excellent communications skills, flexibility and the ability to think strategically, work cooperatively and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, culturally diverse environment. Position is based in Washington, D.C. with approximately 20-25% international travel.
