The role has overall responsibility to support the Child Protection manager to develop the capacity of the national staff team. The Child Protection officer will be required to support the running of psychosocial programmes for conflict affected children at a field level through youth activities as well as CFS activities.
Key accountabilities
Work in coordination with Child Protection Manager in designing and the implementation of programme activities focusing on children affected by conflict. This will include developing youth programming and CFS project as well as developing awareness raising activities.
Assist and work in coordination with Child Protection Manager to Initiate and develop good diplomatic working relations with national government authorities, the UN agencies and leading non-govt organisations (NGO’s) to co-ordinate child protection plans.
Design, implement and maintain child protection monitoring procedures and information systems.
Identify, assess and develop capacity of partner organisations to roll out child protection programmes.
Participate in the development of strategies for child protection programmes at field level.
Ensure implementation of youth participation initiatives in camps and communities.
Develop, train and mentor national staff in child protection to build their capacity to ensure the sustainability of the programme.
Produce high quality reports for Save the Children within agreed reporting schedules and assist the Child protection manager in donor reporting.
To be aware and keep abreast of good practice and policy issues regarding child protection in emergencies.
Ensure that minimum standards of humanitarian relief are maintained in accordance with the Sphere charter and code of conduct.
Comply with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures with respect to child protection, health and safety, code of conduct, equal opportunities and other relevant policies.
