In the framework of a multi-donor agreement, the German International Cooperation will fund the mobilisation of a team of experts to assist the implementation of the UNDP/GEF-project (US$ 4,5 million) “Partnership to Mainstream Marine and Coastal Biodiversity into Oil and Gas Sector Development in Mauritania”. The project aims to strengthen the necessary policy, legislative and financial instruments as well as the capacity of the government and civil society stakeholders in partnership with the oil and gas industry to protect and conserve marine coastal biodiversity. It consists of 3 main components:
1) Mainstreaming of marine and coastal biodiversity conservation into the governance frameworks for the oil and gas sector and into the industry’s operations
2) Strengthening conservation finance mechanisms and
3) Capacity building for key stakeholders
GOPA in consortium with ERM will tender for the consulting service contract and seeks a professional with the following qualifications:
- MSc or PhD in Natural Resources Management, Biodiversity Conservation, Coastal Zone Management, Economic Engineering, Social Sciences or Economics;
- At least 10 years professional working experience and project management experience;
- Experience in working in the interface between the oil and gas sector and environment/biodiversity conservation;
- Excellent communication skills enabling the person to facilitate the dialogue between government, oil industry, environmental NGOs and civil society;
- Financial management skills, experience in fund management;
- Fluency in French and English;
- Previous working experience in West Africa/in Mauritania would be an asset.
