Devex is currently assisting the JICA Research Institute in its search for a Content/Editorial Writer, to be based in Tokyo.

The JICA Research Institute (JICA-RI) was established in 2008 with the mission to focus on policy-oriented studies that address the important issues faced by developing countries. It supersedes and strengthens the research capabilities of the former Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).  JICA-RI hopes also to develop research networks worldwide and create opportunities for dialogue between researchers and practitioners so that ground-breaking research can be conducted and its findings delivered to the international community.

JICA-RI is seeking a Content Writer to cover topics and events relevant to international development and JICA-RI, write content for its newsletter and website, and share the Institute’s work with the international development community.  Proficiency in English is required.  Only residents in Japan with legal work authorization will be considered for this position.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Interview JICA-RI staff and researchers
  • Cover JICA-RI seminars, symposiums, and other events
  • Write articles (in English) for monthly newsletter and website
  • Outreach to major international organizations and institutes to distribute disseminate information and promote JICA-RI to the international development community
  • May translate Japanese documents and other materials

 

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of experience writing articles for newspapers or journals, or similar media experience; experience writing content relevant to international development is highly preferred
  • Degree in/related to international development and/or journalism
  • Based in Japan and working permit
  • High proficiency English language skills (spoken, written, and verbal)
  • Business-level Japanese language skills desired
