About the Internet Society
The Internet Society (ISOC) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1992 to provide leadership in Internet-related standards, education, and policy. With offices in Washington D.C., USA, and Geneva, Switzerland, it is dedicated to ensuring the open development, evolution, and use of the Internet for the benefit of people throughout the world. The Internet Society provides leadership in addressing issues that confront the future of the Internet, serves as the organizational home for the groups responsible for Internet infrastructure standards, acts as a global clearinghouse for Internet information and education, and facilitates and coordinates Internet-related initiatives around the world focused on enabling access, building InterNetWorks, and ensuring trust and identity.
Implementing ISOC's , the Department of Regional Development works to deliver on the promise of the Internet by expanding the reach and impact of the Internet in emerging economies.
Our programmes and projects include training Internet engineers on techniques that maximise technology in resource constrained environments, building communities of practice to sustain and accelerate knowledge acquisition and transfer, assisting with development and best practices for collaborative infrastructures, providing insight to policy makers and regulators on issues important to Internet access and growth, and other activities that help expand, strengthen, and evolve the Internet in less developed countries. The Department of Regional Development’s primary regional focuses are Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Asia-Pacific.
The Programme Manager will be responsible managing activities aimed at growing ISOC’s reach, effectiveness, and impact in Internet development and coordinating programmes and projects within the Department.
