Project Manager – Solomon Island

Background

A road sector project is expected to be implemented in Solomon Island in early January 2010. The project is expected to focus on road rehabilitation and maintenance of roads and bridges. The road maintenance will include community contracting using labor-based equipment supported (LBES) techniques. The Project will also support institutional strengthening and capacity building of government staff, national consultants and contractors.

 

Positions and Requirements:

SKM is currently looking to recruit a Project Manager under this potential project from early 2010. The Project Manager needs to have at least 10 years experience in the Pacific Island countries. Previous experience working with the World Bank and Asian Development Bank will be beneficial.

 

Project Manager  is required for approximately 12 person-months

 

The following are some of the expected tasks:

 

Tasks and Duties

 

  • Manage resources and direct the preparation of feasibility assessments, detailed designs and tender documents;
  • Administer, implement, and monitor international and national contracts for civil works and consulting services under the Project;
  • Provide guidance to contractors after being awarded contracts to prepare documents and processes for implementation, monitoring, and reporting;
  • Review contractors' regular monitoring reports;
  • Ensure coordination with other projects being undertaken by MID, development partners, other Government ministries, and the private sector;
  • Facilitate participation of Government counterparts in ongoing capacity development activities to ensure skills transfer;
