Director of Research

Devex is currently assisting a nongovernmental organization with filling a Director of Research position based in Honduras.  This nongovernmental organization established in 1984 with the mission to strengthen technology’s role in Honduras’ agricultural output, and to diversify agricultural production for domestic and export markets.

The Director of Research is responsible for organizing and managing the research activities of the Foundation. The organization’s activities are comprised of crop-specific programs in banana and plantain breeding, cacao and agroforestry, diversification crops (primarily fruits and spices), as well as departments in plant protection (including plant pathology, entomology, nematology and weed science), post harvest handling and agricultural economics. The Foundation has its own communications center with a library. It operates laboratories in soil chemistry and pesticide residues. FHIA’s primary clients are from the agriculture sector of Honduras. It also provides technical assistance and agricultural services in other Central American countries. The position is based in La Lima, Cortés, Honduras, at the Foundation’s main facilities and requires routine in-country travel. 

Required qualifications include the following:

- PhD degree in an agricultural discipline, preferably in horticulture, plant protection or plant breeding

-10 or more years of experience in an agricultural research adminstration role

- Fluency in Spanish and English is required
