Education Manager

Scope:

The Education Manager will be responsible for the implementation and management of the Education Program in the two prefectures of Nana Gribizi and Ouham Pendé. The position offers the exciting opportunity to play a leading role in providing much needed educational support in post-conflict areas where most teachers are not accredited by the Ministry of Education, but are rather motivated parents who finished at least primary school. The program aims to increase access to schools, improve the quality of the education provided, and ensure that learning environments are child-friendly.  Activities include training of teachers in the educational curriculum as well as non-violent disciplinary techniques, building the capacity of parent-teacher associations to play an active role in ensuring children are receiving an education, and supporting youth peer educators as they organize recreational activities. 

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise and support the Education team in the implementation of all interventions related to Education programming in accordance with grant agreements
  • Oversee reporting systems and budget management, including budget forecasting, development of spending and work plans and indicator tracking sheets
  • Working in collaboration with the Field Coordinator and Deputy Director for Programs, conduct needs assessments; play an active role in the development of new proposals and initiatives or changes to the existing program; and contribute to a well-developed strategic plan
  • Develop and implement a capacity-building strategy for IRC national staff
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a monitoring and evaluation plan
  • Produce monthly activity reports, and the development of advocacy messages to encourage school enrollment of children, particularly girls.
  • Provide inputs into the design and delivery of training materials
  • Work in close collaboration with Gender-based Violence program manager to ensure a fully integrated program approach and design
  • Communicate regularly with the Field Coordinator and Deputy Director for Programs to provide updates on the program, discuss emerging challenges, and liaise with them to ensure that all programs are well targeted, contextually appropriate, and do-no-harm to the beneficiary populations
  • Ensure coordination with UN agency offices in the field
  • Carry out any other duties as assigned by the supervisor

 

Requirement

  • Masters degree preferred (Education, Social Work, or other related field)
  • Strong education-related program management experience
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Demonstrated experience in staff supervision in an international context, training and capacity building, project design and budget management
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, analysis, and writing skills
  • Experience working in insecure environments with restrictive security procedures
  • Fluency in French and good command of English required

 

Specific Security Situation/Housing:

Willingness to travel to insecure areas within the constraints of IRC’s security policies is required.  Accommodation is shared and equipped with TV and VSAT internet.
