El Salvador - Chief of Party

The Citizen Safety for El Salvador: Crime and Violence Prevention Project is a new project that will promote multi-sectoral coordination at the community/local, national and regional levels to achieve a reduction in violence and crime. The strategy of this project aims to decrease a youth violence-seeking generation of identity for young people, while at the same time providing training and employment opportunities.

Position Summary:

The Chief of Party will be responsible for: 1) providing the vision and overall leadership to the team; 2) managing technical assistance and program administration; 3) implementing activities in accordance with applicable laws and regulations; 4) preparing and submitting technical and financial reports requested by USAID/El Salvador; and 5) helping coordinate USAID/El Salvador assistance with key national and local government counterparts and other non-governmental partners.  

Reporting & Supervision:

The Chief of Party will report to the Project Director in Washington, DC.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• University degree in a related field such as Law, Social Work, Criminal or Juvenile Justice, Public or Business Administration, or Community Development required. Master’s, J.D., or Ph.D. desired.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience as a development professional implementing donor-funded youth at-risk, crime and/or violence reduction, public safety or community development programs.
• Demonstrated experience in working with senior government officials and municipal authorities across partisan lines and the private sector to support a program’s objectives.
• Proven capacity to facilitate coordination amongst diverse sectors.
• Strong management skills.
• Ability to work with a range of technical staff and develop professional relationships with senior government officials across partisan lines and coordinate with other donors involved in community crime prevention and development.
• Excellent written and spoken Spanish and English skills (FSI IV).
• Experience working in El Salvador is required.
