Executive Director

Summary: Working with the ACP Board of Directors, government entities including the Palestinian Authority and other partners, the executive director should provide leadership and management to accomplish the mission and goals of American Charities for Palestine.  Furthermore, the executive director ensures that ACP has well-functioning internal operations to support its mission while reflecting credibly on the organization.

The executive director reports to the ACP Board of Directors through the Chairman of the Board. The position of executive director will likely include 40+ hour weeks and extensive travel, domestically and abroad.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Supports the board of directors by providing timely reports on ACP programs, internal operations, finances, planning and relationships;
  2. Works with the board to support their governance;
  3. Oversees fundraising and the securing of other resources to support ACP programs and operations (to include grant applications, donor identification, solicitation strategizing, etc.);
  4. Develops or facilitates the development of strategic partnerships with other organizations in pursuit of ACP goals;
  5. Recommends an annual budget, and budget revisions as necessary (working with relevant accountants, auditors, and lawyers as well as the Board);
  6. Provides an interface between the board and staff as well as funders and partners;
  7. Participates in a personal annual objectives assessment and performance evaluation process;
  8. Oversees the prioritization, planning, implementation and evaluation of programs to accomplish ACP’s mission;
  9. Prudently manages the resources of the organization, including maintaining a rigorous financial management system;
  10. Assures that ACP complies with all applicable laws, regulations and reporting requirements;
  11. Manages the human resources of ACP, including employees and volunteers;
  12. Manages and develops a basic communications strategy to assure that ACP and its programs are marketed professionally to relevant audiences (i.e. develop promotional materials, etc.);
  13. Oversees advocacy activities supporting the goals and objectives of ACP (domestic, international);
  14. Represents ACP in public forums and with partner organizations, potential funders, etc.;
  15. Maintains and manages ACP’s website;
  16. Maintains appropriate communications with key stakeholders, within relevant government entities, with primary partners, donors, and interested parties in the United States and abroad.

 

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Demonstrates a proactive, entrepreneurial, adaptable and innovative approach to development;
  • At least three years senior management experience with leading nonprofit organizations;
  • Demonstrated success in securing financial support from foundations, government grants, major donors and individuals (i.e. proposal writing for government and private grants)
  • Demonstrated success in working on international development projects, including the facilitation of partnerships between U.S. and overseas institutions. Middle Eastern experience preferred;
  • Demonstrated success in securing and maintaining close working relationships with U.S. federal government agencies, nonprofit organizations, private and public health and education institutions and foundations;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.  Facility in Arabic is preferred;
  • Experience in overseeing the planning and running of joint meetings and conferences;
  • Knowledge of the Israel/Palestine issue and commitment to ACP’s goals and mission;
  • Outstanding organization skills;
  • Strong marketing, public relations and advocacy skills;
  • Valid U.S. passport and willingness to travel to Palestine;
  • A Bachelor’s degree, Masters highly preferred.

 

Computer Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Experience with CiviCRM, ACCESS or other Constituent Relations Manager highly preferred.
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign or other design program a plus.

 

Compensation: Commensurate with skills, ability and experience; Health insurance provided.
