The ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) is currently seeking a candidate for its International Volunteer Internship Program in the Europe and Eurasia Division to work on its program in Azerbaijan for the summer of 2012. The Azerbaijan field internship is well suited for recent graduates or students currently enrolled in master’s or law programs. Candidates should have a proven background and interest in the region and international affairs and have excellent written and cross-cultural communication skills.
The intern will be a key member of the Azerbaijan office and will assist in core responsibilities such as maintaining program records, writing reports, using evaluation tools to assess program progress, organizing administrative functions, conducting background research for programs and proposals, attending meetings with stakeholders, and monitoring current events pertaining to ABA ROLI programming in the country.
The internship will provide the opportunity to acquire knowledge of the U.S. Government assistance process, legal reform initiatives and priorities in the country, and international development in general. The intern will be under direct supervision of the ABA ROLI Country Director in Azerbaijan, and will attend meetings and events with members of staff and other interns.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, skills and attributes:
• currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from a master’s or law program
• highly motivated and proactive in engaging program goals with independent initiative
• excellent written and oral communication skills
• working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook
• knowledge and interest in political developments in Eurasia
• organized, analytical, priority-minded, and detail-oriented
• flexibility to work as a group member as well as independently and able to communicate with others from various backgrounds
This internship will be offered for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer 2012 term. Funding, including travel to and from Azerbaijan, is not available for this position and candidates are encouraged to seek funding or fellowships from their universities.
