Foundation Relations Coordinator

The Foundation Relations Coordinator will contribute to the Business Development Unit by providing programmatic and administrative support to the Foundation Relations team.  The Coordinator will manage and coordinate the cultivation of foundation donor prospects and partnerships, the development and submission of funding requests, and support the growth of the foundation funding portfolio of Plan International USA.  In this position, the Foundation Relations Coordinator will work with Plan USA staff in donor cultivation, proposal development, and grant management, connecting the Technical and Program teams with relevant opportunities. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

Account Management:

  • Researches foundation websites and databases for opportunities and creates and manages strategies for donor cultivation
  • Manages donor relationships as assigned, with opportunities to gain responsibility for accounts of increasing value over time
  • Prepares briefing memos and presentations for foundation meetings
  • Staffs and coordinates donor meetings, global events, and teleconferences as assigned and writes meeting reports.
  • Works with staff in country offices, national offices, regional offices, and International Headquarters (IH) to coordinate and collaborate on global projects for foundation prospects
  • Supports other Business Development Unit accounts as needed or assigned.

 

Proposal Development:

  • Edits and proofreads concept notes and proposals for foundation accounts
  • Researches and writes sections of proposals as assigned
  • Researches technical topics as needed to strengthen proposals
  • Coordinates proposal submission and tracking
  • Develops and checks proposal budgets, logical frameworks, work plans, etc. for accuracy and formatting

 

Grant Management:

  • Tracks and monitors reporting deadlines, working with the country office and Field Program Support  team to coordinate reporting for foundation accounts
  • Develops reporting templates, takes the lead in developing and editing reports, as assigned by the Senior Account Manager
  • Coordinates with the Compliance team on all financial reporting.

 

Business Processes and Administration: 

  • Maintains donor relations database (currently: Raisers Edge & Convio)
  • Manages trackers and prospect lists for the Foundation Relations team
  • Manages department business protocols, including donor correspondence (thank-you letters), database maintenance, filing systems, etc.
  • Supports Foundation Relations team’s role in Business Development Unit systems, such as pipeline trackers, event calendars, etc.
  • Provides limited administrative support to the Foundation Relations team such as scheduling meetings, filing expense reports, scheduling travel, etc.
  • Supervises an Intern (as applicable)
  • Other tasks as assigned

                                       

Qualifications;

 

  • BA minimum; MA or substantial progress towards a relevant MA in international development, public health, or a relevant field preferred;
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in fundraising.
  • Minimum of 1 year in international work experience or volunteer experience is strongly preferred.
  • BA level candidates will be considered if the BA is in international development or a related field AND the candidate has extensive international field experience such as Peace Corps. Minimum work experience requirement still applies. 
  • International and/or local fundraising and proposal development experience preferred
  • Believe passionately in Plan International’s mission, vision and values
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Excellent coordination and organization skills
  • Proposal development and budget development experience
  • Strong working knowledge of international development
  • Strong working knowledge of the international development donor community
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with an international staff
  • Ability to think critically, objectively, analytically, and strategically
  • Attention to detail and timeliness in responding to requests from prospective donors, partners, and colleagues
  • High level computer literacy with internet-based research and basic software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Some ability in a second language preferred
  • Willingness to travel (domestically and internationally)
