Qualifications and skills
University degree in Agriculture, with a specialisation in Horticultural Sciences, or equivalent.
General professional experience
Minimum of 8 years experience in the management / implementation of projects or programmes aiming at the development of perennial horticulture and fruit and nut production in developing countries.
Specific professional experience
Familiar with the preparation, monitoring and evaluation of plans aiming at the development of farmer-based organisations for production, mechanisation and marketing (through his/her involvement in at least one project).
Excellent working knowledge of developing farmers organisations, their legal/fiscal structures and coordinating their needs to national level in strategy development.
Familiar with policy and strategy planning, resulting in the development of business plans.
Proven experience in implementing participatory demonstration projects, the development of fruit tree orchards, and / or in the management of fruit and nut tree commercial and mother stock nurseries (within the frame of one project at least).
Good knowledge of EC implementation rules/constraints and particularly familiar with the implementation of NGO grant contract projects (has worked on at least one long-term EC funded programme with components implemented by NGOs or has been working for NGOs for at least 3 years).
Understanding of gender aspects and environmental hazards in development work (has been involved in at least one rural development project entailing an environmental conservation component or having participated to the implementation of one EIA, a strong gender component etc.).
Previous experience of working in Afghanistan or similar post-conflict contexts highly preferred.
Fluency in English is compulsory; knowledge in Dari would be a serious advantage.
