Construction Site Safety Specialist

Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) is currently supervising the construction of a series of urban sewerage and drainage works related to the HCMC component of the WB-funded Viet Nam Urban Upgrading Project.

Related to this project, SKM is seeking to recruit a Construction Site Safety Specialist. The responsibilities of this role include:

  • - Monitor day-to-day construction and assist to ensure it is carried out in an environmentally friendly, healthy and safe manner;
  • - Direct for PPE to be worn and other safety obligations followed;
  • - Supervision of construction contractors to ensure they carry out works in accordance with the EMP;
  • - Alert the client to any environmental issues and execute necessary mitigation measures and/or solutions where appropriate;
  • - Supervise construction contractors' implementation of environmental protection measures;
  • - Ensure coordination of effective HSET is maintained across the consultant's engineering team;
  • - Check that construction contractors' proposals accord with statutory or otherwise approved requirements for maintaining workers and public health, safety and welfare;
  • - Assist the client in the coordination with other agencies to resolve problems related to traffic and public nuisance as may arise from construction;
  • - Examine, approve and supervise all temporary and permanent traffic management proposals of the contractor and ensure that interruption to movement of all road users is kept to a minimum.

 

Requirements for this role include:

  • - University graduate in civil engineering/environmental or closely related fields;
  • - At least 7 years of field working experience in construction supervision of infrastructure including sewerage/drainage/water supply or highway/roads, including management of the health, safety, environment and traffic management;
  • - Familiarity with international HSET standards and procedures;
  • - Experience in Asian developing countries;
  • - Experience in HSET training and manual preparation be an asset.

The focus of this role is managing and improving site safety.
