I. GENERAL INFORMATION:

TechnoServe is a rapidly growing, non-profit organization dedicated to the expansion of economic opportunity and income for the poor in over 20 countries. Founded in 1968, TechnoServe implements projects that enhance the competitiveness of agricultural and other industry “value chains” for the benefit of small-holder farmers and other market participants in developing countries. A second main focus is the identification and development of high potential entrepreneurs for the expansion of their businesses and generation of employment opportunity.  TechnoServe employs a staff of 700 business and technical specialists and program managers throughout its network in Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa and India.

II. PRIMARY PURPOSE & FUNCTION:

TechnoServe is undertaking a multi-year Project – supported by a consortium of public and private sector partners - to contribute to improving income growth opportunities for smallholder farmers and other actors in Haiti’s mango value chain. The purpose of the Project is to develop a more competitive, sustainable and inclusive mango value chain that increases the income of smallholder mango farmers creates employment and enhances fresh and processed mango exports. This will be done through four components: Component 1, Empowering Producer Business Groups (PBGs) to increase production, improve access to market and diversify income in a sustainable manner, Component 2, Fostering competitive local processing businesses to increase local value addition, Component 3, Facilitating supportive enabling environment, and Component 4, Knowledge management and dissemination.

The Business Advisor will provide leadership in the provision of services for PBGs through the identification of PBG farmers, training/consulting of the PBGs, market information and monitoring of PBG performance.

III. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

•  Analyze farmer needs.
• Identify and select PBG farmers.
• Set up PBG training scheme in collaboration with Senior Business Advisors (SBAs) and Technical Advisors (TAs).
• Set up framework for development of PBG business plans (based on TechnoServe concept and with input from SBAs and management).
• Prepare terms of reference for technical assistance to PBG farmers.
• Provide analytical support on components on processing, diversification and knowledge management.
• Participate and contribute to stakeholder fora.

IV. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE:

• Bachelors Degree or equivalent title in business administration or related field work.
• 3 years experience in agribusinesses, business, finance, and/or design and administration of projects.
• Proven ability to develop business plans.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communications.
• Entrepreneurial, self-motivated.
• Proficiency in English, French and Creole.
