Duration of Job: Two years full time and renewable for another two years based on performance and need.
A new exciting job opportunity exists with the United States Government, represented by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), for a motivated individual to serve as Deputy Team Leader (DTL) of the HIV/AIDS & TB Team in USAID/Nigeria’s Investing in People Office. The DTL shall provide broad technical guidance, analysis, and leadership in the formulation and management of USAID/Nigeria’s HIV/AIDS & TB portfolio as well as to the interagency management group of the PEPFAR/Nigeria (President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) program, and implementation of its Country Operational Plan. The contractor shall function as the alter ego of the HIV/AIDS & TB Team Leader and serve as the Acting Team Leader during the absence of the Team Leader in coordinating the day-to-day implementation of all team functions, in accordance with approved guidelines, regulations and procedures. S/he shall assure technical oversight of the HIV/AIDS & TB Team on all sub-sector and technical working group matters, coordinate, supervise and develop team members, engage team members in portfolio development and strengthen monitoring and evaluation.
The contractor shall report directly to the HIV/AIDS & TB Team Leader and be responsibility for formulating and assessing HIV/AIDS & TB technical and managerial policies and procedures. Specifically, the contractor shall be responsible for (1) assisting in administering of HIV/AIDS & TB activities; (2) conducting or orchestrating team development and supervisory activities (i.e., work planning, staff development, coaching, mentoring, training, and performance appraisal) for HIV/AIDS & TB team members; and (3) overseeing interagency coordination of HIV/AIDS & TB activities.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the management and implementation of international health program which may include population, reproductive, maternal, child, and family, and nutritional health programs, including, HIV/AIDS prevention, and service delivery projects. More specifically, the applicant should have a broad knowledge of HIV/AIDS & TB strategies and internationally recognized best practices along with experience in managing HIV/AIDS & TB activities.
Candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, including ability to work in a multi-cultural setting with demonstrated ability to work in a team. Leadership qualities are essential, including demonstrated experience working closely with government decision makers and program managers in challenging environments.
