Director of Strategic Communications
Management Sciences for Health (MSH) is a nonprofit international health organization founded in 1971. Our mission is to save lives and improve the health of the world's poorest and most vulnerable people by closing the gap between knowledge and action in public health. Together with our partners, we are helping managers and leaders in developing countries to create stronger management systems that improve health services for the greatest health impact.
Management Sciences for Health is currently seeking a Director of Strategic Communications to join its Communications and Knowledge Exchange team in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Strategic Communications is responsible for bringing MSH and critical health issues to the forefront of domestic and international professional, government, and donor audiences. Leading and managing a team of communications professionals, he or she provides leadership for the development and implementation of MSH's integrated communications strategy, and seeks opportunities to campaign, promote, and advocate on behalf of MSH's work and public health issues. The Director will ensure that MSH has a unified public image by overseeing the effective roll-out of the organization's new brand identity. The Director has overall responsibility for building the internal communications capacity for the organization by setting internal and external communication standards, guidelines, and processes while proactively reaching out to and supporting the CEO, technical centers, field teams, and Business & Resource Development office.
QUALIFICATIONS
1) Master's degree in communications, business, international development or relevant field, or equivalent relevant experience.
2) Proven track record supervising, leading, and coaching a high-performance team.
3) Excellent organizational and resource management skills.
4) Team-oriented; collaborative, persistent, and collegial work style.
5) Results-oriented, high energy, and a positive attitude.
6) Extensive experience in strategy development and implementation, public and media relations, and/or marketing/brand development required.
7) Exceptional writing and verbal communications skills.
8) Experience working in a nonprofit or international development organization. Experience working with USAID a plus.
9) Computer skills essential; proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required. Experience with MS Access a plus. Microsoft Office applications preferred.
10) Foreign language skills in French, Spanish, Portuguese, or Dari, very helpful.
11) Willingness to travel internationally and domestically approximately 25 percent of the time.
