General Summary
The BDS Advisor will possess core competency in marketing SBDC product and services, and will be responsible for developing and implementing a long term vision and a business model for the SBDCs in order to realize long-term sustainability in accordance with the Tijara/BDS workplan and Engagement Plan to improve SBDC Performance.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. For the BDS Advisor role:
- Support SBDCs with technical assistance in strengthening their NGOs institutional capacities and progressing toward sustainability.
- Provide mentoring and day to day technical assistance to the designated SBDCs as determined by the component lead and COP.
- Appraise the operations and challenges of the SBDCs and assist in developing programs to ensure sustainable growth.
- Closely work with SBDCs to provide new business related activities and services in addition to expanding its existing set of services to their MSME clients.
- Enhance and ensure the sustainability of the SBDCs through the implementation of the BDS vision and SBDC model and other capacity building interventions.
- Provide training and technical assistance to the SBDCs in support of the vision and business model.
- Assist SBDCs to identify key business opportunities and constraints and recommend specific areas of intervention through training and advisory services to be offered under SBDC auspices.
- Conduct Technical Assistance Visits to PRTs to advise them on procedures for starting up and existing SBDCs, and to help resolve any problems or issues relating to them.
- Track the weekly task lists of the staff to make sure all staff members are gainfully employed and focused on implementing the engagement plan for their region.
- With assistance from the PRTs, visit SBDCs to help evaluate operations of the SBDCs.
- Help expand the menu of services offered by the SBDCs.
2. For the Marketing Advisor role:
Marketing Advisor will assist the Business Development Services Component leader. The consultant will review the existing SBDC marketing plans and strategize to create, improve and expand marketing services throughout Iraq in accordance with Tijara’s workplan for Business Development Services to support the SBDCs. The advisor will organize, prepare and present specific programs, including Marketing for Training of Trainers (TOTs) and other marketing courses as determined necessary by the BDS director. Work will include a broad range of responsibilities related to the development and implementation of marketing courses, including, but not limited to: developing a marketing strategy specific to all (SBDCs). Responsibilities include liaison with BDS staff for all upcoming events, compiling required reports to substantiate success of marketing efforts, meetings with SBDC leaders to promote marketing concepts, preparing minutes of meetings, responding to SBDC marketing needs, exercising considerable focus to achieve BDS workplan goals, judgment and discretion in completing assignments. All activities must contribute to moving the SBDCs toward long-term sustainability. Other duties include:
? Develop and implement the national marketing strategy to support SBDCs.
? Oversight of all marketing activities.
? Creation and implementation of courses, programs and activities that contribute to the above-stated Strategic Objectives, including development and implementation of specific courses related to marketing, as well as Training of Trainers (TOT) marketing courses, for example, but not limited to:
o Expanding Fee-based Services in the Community.
o How Marketing Supports Revenue Generation.
o Identifying Targeted Services for New Clients (Donors or GoI).
o Community Outreach and Awareness through Marketing.
o Marketing Communications: Sales Techniques and Customer Care.
o Design and deliver other programs as requested by SBDCs as is appropriate for their communities, and that contribute to the above-stated Strategic Objectives.
? Organize, maintain and report an accurate results for the marketing unit
? Prepare promotional course materials such as announcements, flyers, handouts, etc.
? Increasing and maintaining the trainer database.
? Liaison with the BDS team for various elements of marketing events and handling all aspects of successful marketing delivery to include handling of trainer needs, logistical arrangements, one-to-one coaching with each SBDC and reporting requirements.
? Update of the SBDC web site with marketing impact and/or success stories, new courses and other pertinent information.
? And other duties as requested by senior management.
Qualifications
1. 8 – 10 years experience in Business Development Services with an emphasis on SBDC’s and MSME’s.
2. Thorough experience in creating and preparing marketing strategies, including creation and implementation of courses, programs and activities including Training of Trainers (TOT) marketing courses.
3. Experience working with Provincial Reconstruction Teams
4. Advanced University degree in a related field
5. Past experience working in Iraq or conflict zone is a plus
6. Experience with website design and maintenance
7. Fluency in English, Arabic is a plus.
