The M&E Officer is based in Pretoria, with travel to other sites in Africa. He/she will work in a team with other officers in Pretoria and Nairobi. The role involves all aspects of M&E work, including the development of frameworks, carry out surveys and other methods of collecting information, interrogate databases to provide short reports, and contribute to periodic reports.

Salary range: 15,000 – 20,000 ZAR gross
The Australia Awards for Africa Programme (AAAP) is a key component of the Australian Government’s development assistance to targeted countries in Africa. This three year contract aims to provide 1000 scholarships per year across almost all of Africa, covering post-graduate courses, short courses and professional development through work attachments.
Reporting to: M&E specialist and Team Leader– Australia Awards for Africa Programme (AAAP)
Based: Pretoria
Duration: End Date 31 December 2013 with 2 year option to extend.
FUNCTIONS:
To assist in the provision of a robust monitoring and evaluation framework for the Australia Awards for Africa Programme.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assist and support the M&E Coordinator and Team in the full implementation of the AAAP’s M&E Framework across all hubs and nodes.
· Support and maintaining quality with regards to results-monitoring
· Assist in research and evaluation activities
· Preparing data collection instruments
· Summarising data analysis
· Interpreting and using the results for programme improvement
· Assist and manage Alumni tracing and tracking activities
· Assist in planning, implementing and evaluating Alumni activities, e.g. workshops
· Maintain Alumni database and ensure Alumni details are current
· Report writing
· Other duties from time-to time, as may be reasonably required by the M & E Coordinator
KEY SELECTION CRITIERIA:
· Relevant Tertiary Qualification
· Knowledge of Project administration, evaluation concepts and procedures
· Ability to interpret project information and to identify and analyse problems with implementation.
· Strong analytical skills
· Ability to work under pressure and balance several competing tasks at once.
· Demonstrated people skills with a flexible and collaborative personal style
· Be prepared to provide off site and after hours support.
· Identifies process improvements and discusses with immediate supervisor.
· Works with people of all backgrounds with a respectful attitude
· Actively works to support the delivery of the objectives of AAAP and encourages others to do this too.
· Fluency in written and spoken English, fluency in any/all Portuguese, French, Arabic languages would be highly desirable.
