Land O’Lakes International Development Division (IDD) seeks an experienced senior enterprise development specialist to provide leadership to Land O’Lakes practice area for enterprise, cooperative and association development. The Enterprise and Cooperative Development Practice Manager will strengthen and expand IDD’s portfolio of agricultural-related enterprise and cooperative development projects and programming. The person in this position will utilize and apply knowledge of small and medium- enterprise business management, financing and competitiveness, and provide thought leadership to Land O’Lakes International Development to capture new funding opportunities and ensure operational excellence in relevant IDD projects. The Enterprise and Cooperative Practice Manager will also be responsible for managing an anticipated international cooperative development program. This includes but is not limited to:
• Developing and implementing a strategy to leverage and apply Land O’Lakes expertise and experience in agro-enterprise and cooperative development into new business opportunities and to ensure operational excellence in IDD’s worldwide programming; • Developing new and refining existing methodologies and tools, including business modeling and cash flow analysis, to support the implementation of micro-, small- and medium-enterprise as well as cooperative development projects; • Expanding IDD’s network of donors, implementing partners and expert practitioners; • Conducting reconnaissance and technical assessments (e.g., sector and value-chain analyses) and building public-private alliances in areas where new projects are planned; • Providing technical leadership on proposal development teams to secure new funding; • Providing technical support to current and future projects in the area of enterprise and cooperative development to maximize project effectiveness and impact; and • Creating and sustaining an organization-wide understanding of global best practices and trends in enterprise and cooperative development
The successful candidate will have:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics or related field; • Private sector experience, preferably in agriculture or agribusiness; • A minimum of eight years of experience working internationally on agricultural or economic development projects, including five years experience on donor-funded projects; • Must have demonstrated experience and expertise in development issues related to: leadership and governance, business planning, financial management, savings and credit, and enabling environment; • Experience with proposal development and writing; • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; • Able to demonstrate integrity and ethical behavior in working relationships; • Proven ability to coordinate effectively and collegially with funding organizations, the private sector, governments, NGOs and industry associations; and • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred: Foreign language proficiency (French or Spanish preferred. Other languages valued.)
This position will be based in Arlington, VA and will require up to 40 percent travel internationally and to headquarters in Minnesota, USA.
