Accountant

Established by African States with technical and financial support from the World Bank, the African Trade Insurance Agency (ATI) is a multilateral developmental financial institution dedicated to providing credit and political risk insurance and other financial products to promote trade with and investments into Africa. 

 

ATI is seeking to recruit an Accountant with a strong knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including generally accepted accounting standards

 

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the key responsibilities of this position are: to ensure the timely processing and execution of all financial transactions relating to the Agency’s business; to ensure that proper books of accounts are kept for the Agency in accordance with IFRS; to ensure all balance sheet accounts are properly reconciled on a monthly basis; to co-ordinate payments to suppliers/creditors, ensuring payments are made within the agreed date; to prepare and timely deliver accurate monthly management reports, including financial analysis, projections and charts; to prepare and timely deliver accurate quarterly financial reports summarizing the financial performance and financial position of the Agency;  to prepare the annual Financial Statements in according to IFRS; to prepare the annual budget of the Agency and assist the CFO with the preparation of the Business Plan of the Agency; as the case may be; to co-ordinate internal audits and liaise with external auditors performing audits; where applicable, to assist the CFO in the implementation of the investment programme of the Agency; to supervise the Assistant Accountant and to work with  the CFO in promoting and implementing system and financial  procedures enhancement.

 

Qualifications:

 

Candidate must possess a university degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; an  internationally recognized accounting professional qualification; 7 years and above experience in a similar position, preferably in a financial institution or an insurance environment; proven supervision skills; strong commercial awareness; excellent knowledge of information technology systems including current financial and accounting software applications; excellent communications skills in written and spoken English; knowledge of French will be an added advantage; ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
