Program Coordinator - Afghanistan

Position:         Afghanistan Program Coordinator

Location:        Kabul, Afghanistan

Duration:       12 Months

About RI:        Relief International (RI) is a humanitarian agency that provides emergency relief, rehabilitation, and development interventions throughout the world. RI’s programs link immediate emergency assistance with long-term economic and livelihood development through innovative programming at the grassroots level.

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

Reporting to the RI Afghanistan Country Director, with accountability to the Provincial Program Coordinator of Nimroz province.

Management of DFID project

 

  • Support the project team in the management of implementation of the DFID project.
  • Provide guidance and training to project team and partners on issues of governance, corruption, gender, transparency and accountability.
  • Support facilitation of trainings for governmental departments, DDA and CDC members in Nimroz province.
  • Coordinate and support the project team to design and organise production of educational films and tools to facilitate discussion at local level in coordination with national organisations.
  • Coordination of project team to prepare and follow up the provision of district grants for project implementation and support for the procurement of these projects.
  • Coordination of project team to prepare and follow up the provision of community grants targeting widows, people with disability and working children for project implementation.
  • Coordinate the collection of data and the preparation of reporting throughout the implementation of the project.
  • Work closely with project team to build capacity in terms of governance and project cycle management and reporting according to a work plan.

 

 

Management of ECHO project

 

  • Coordinate a large and diverse team on project cycle tracking, implementation, and reporting as required by RI, country office, and ECHO donor procedures.
  • Coordinate with Logistics, HR, Security, Finance, and M&E provincial and national departments to ensure smooth project implementation.
  • Work closely with National Programme Manager and Provincial Coordinator to ensure accurate follow up of agreed work plan and for monitoring results of the project implementation.
  • Work closely with Grant manager and project team to ensure reporting deadlines are met.
  • Identify and report on timely manner any difficulty or possible change in the program strategy, objectives, results or activities, and make recommendations for timely and optimal course corrections.
  • Identify project and team successes and lead documentation for internal and external information sharing.
  • Train and build the capacity of the national staff team to manage projects and to report according to donor needs and expectations.

 

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Programme management experience.
  • Ability to live and function as a leader and team player at a high capacity within a collaborative organizational structure.
  • Experience of working within context of Afghanistan.
  • Understanding of the political and cultural context in Afghanistan and the region.
  • Understanding of issues of governance, corruption, gender, transparency and accountability
  • Experience of facilitation of training.
    • Experience living and working in dynamic, insecure environments with local communities (this post will involve frequent travel to Nimroz, ideally 50% of time there according to security conditions).
    • Logistical planning and problem-solving skills.
    • Highly organized and systems-oriented.
    • Ability to organise trainings and build capacity of national staff.
    • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills (must be able to provide an independently created and relevant writing sample).
    • Budget and expense management skills.
