Position Summary:

BRHC-A is currently accepting expressions of interest from potential Program Directors/Principal Investigators for an upcoming USAID-funded project focusing on supporting South African organizations that identify, strengthen, and institutionalize better, cost-effective practices and innovations in HIV/AIDS care and treatment for priority and at-risk populations in accordance with South African government (SAG) priorities and policies.

 

The Program Director/Principal Investigator will be responsible for providing leadership, management, strategic technical guidance, and facilitating collaboration with USG and stakeholder governments and institutions.

 

Key responsibilities may include but are not limited to:           

  • Provide strategic leadership and technical, managerial direction for the successful implementation of the project
  • Supervise program staff, and ensure the strategic and functional integration of all technical areas
  • Liaise and manage relationships with USAID/Southern Africa, the South African Government and stakeholders
  • Oversee programmatic activities in HIV/TB services, institutional capacity building and health systems strengthening
  • Coordinate with and create linkages with other USAID funded implementing partners
  • Program and financial management
  • Strong collaboration with donors, USAID, government counterparts, local organizations, and program partners
  • Ensure timely and quality completion of all program technical and financial deliverables and reports in accordance with USAID guidelines
  • Serve as principal and managerial point of contact with USAID

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Epidemiology, International Development or other relevant field;  medical, nursing or other relevant degree highly desired
  • 8+ years of senior-level management experience of projects and programs in health systems strengthening, HIV/AIDS, capacity building, operations research, including cost and cost effectiveness analyses and or monitoring and evaluation
  • Demonstrated capabilities in management, high-level strategic visioning and leadership, and experience in working effectively with the SAG
  • Demonstrated experience is required in coordination and collaboration with a broad set of stakeholders, including multi-lateral and international donors and local and international NGOs
  • Demonstrated technical and management background/experience relevant to the proposed program to improve patient outcomes among priority and at-risk populations
  • Demonstrate exceptional written and oral communications skills in English
  • South African citizenship or residency
  • Strong familiarity with the political, social, economic, and cultural context of working in South Africa
  • Demonstrated experience and success working with high level SAG authorities
  • Must be able to travel within the region and be available for occasional international travel to participate in global or regional conferences and/or meetings as requested
  • Advanced Word, Excel and PowerPoint experience

 

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior experience leading international health projects or serving as a Project Director, Chief of Party, Country Representative or Lead Technical Expert
  • Experience working on USAID,  PEPFAR, and/or other donor-funded HIV/AIDS projects or programs in Southern Africa
