Position Summary
The Project Director will lead a Freedom House project aimed at increasing citizens’ participation in forthcoming elections in Cameroon.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
6 - 8 years experience with elections, civil society and/or human rights
Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
Ability to communicate effectively in French is strongly preferred
Experience providing technical assistance to local organizations in African or other developing countries
Strong knowledge of human rights principles and mechanisms, and understanding of democracy promotion, with proven expertise in West and Central Africa
Strong ability to effectively manage a diverse team of employees, including expatriate and local staff
Strong ability to plan, organize, prioritize work, and multi task to meet tight deadlines
Ability to apply superb attention to detail and consistently produce timely and error-free work
Some Duties and Responsibilities
Direct development and implementation of programs to support civil society and human rights in challenging environments
Provide technical assistance and lead training and other activities for project beneficiaries and DC staff on relevant topics
Manage program finances including analysis, budget monitoring and projections in full compliance with Freedom House and funder requirements
Network and liaise with members of governments, civil society organizations, international and regional bodies, and private funders
Oversee field staff as they conduct daily program activities
Oversee general office management
Other related duties as assigned.
