Senior Maternal Child Health / Reproductive Health Specialist

RTI is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Senior Maternal Child Health / Reproductive Health Specialist to serve as a senior member the Africa Regional Team within RTI’s Global Health Group (GHG). GHG is an expanding program at RTI which currently has a staff of 450 with work in over 20 countries, including two regional offices in Nairobi, Kenya and Bangkok, Thailand. GHG implements projects and programs in the following technical areas: Health Systems Strengthening and Finance; Health Policy and Research; Health Governance; Public Private Partnerships; Malaria and Vector Control; Reproductive Health / Maternal Child Health; Neglected Tropical Diseases; and HIV/AIDS. The MCH/RH Specialist will ensure technical and programmatic quality and growth of the Global Health Group’s MCH/RH programs in Africa. Candidates should have an in-depth knowledge and a proven track record leading major internationally based MCH/RH programs and competing successfully for major MCH/RH funds from USAID and other donors. Candidates should possess strong technical and management experience across several MCH/RH program areas such as prevention and management of STIs; family planning; adolescent RH; post-abortion care/ post-abortion family planning; child survival; infant and young child feeding; nutrition, immunization; obstetric and newborn care; postpartum hemorrhage; emergency obstetric and newborn care (EmOC) and community-based mobilization. This position requires international travel up to 30% time. This position will be based in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Duties and Responsibilities: • Ensure successful implementation of MCH/RH projects, including provision of oversight and assistance in achieving technical and operational deliverables; • Participate in the strategic planning and design of MCH/RH projects, including the selection of appropriate methodologies for program implementation; • Provide technical quality assurance for MCH/RH projects and proposals; • Provide senior MCH/RH technical assistance and capacity building support to GHG projects ensuring priority technical needs are met; • Identify, develop, or adapt innovative tools, approaches, and best practices for use in GHG’s MCH/RH programs; • Identify strategic opportunities to share GHG achievements in MCH/RH through conferences, publications, etc; • Represent the GHG’s MCH/RH work in regional or global forums, networks, technical advisory groups, and consultative sessions or conferences; • Interact and network with donors, potential partners, competitors, and international health groups to keep up on the latest developments in MCH/RH programmatic and funding trends; • Assist in the development and implementation an MCH/RH business development strategy, tracking and preparing for strategic opportunities that align with the Group’s goals and priorities; • Proactively position RTI for upcoming MCH/RH opportunities by marketing RTI’s capabilities to potential donors, networking with potential partners, identifying key staff and consultants, and preparing competitive costing strategies; • Serve as lead technical writer or proposal leader for the development of MCH/RH proposals as well as other related technical areas; • Maintain an extensive network of potential MCH/RH partners and consultants; • Engage in cross-institute collaboration. Includes participating in cross-institute MCH/RH meetings, staying abreast of other division’s MCH/RH activities, ensuring that other groups at RTI who work on MCH/RH issues are informed and/or involved in GHG programs or new business development activities, as appropriate. Skills and Expertise: • Masters in Public Health (MPH) or related field; • Candidates should have least 12 years of experience working on international public health programs with an emphasis on Maternal Child Health and/or Reproductive Health; • Prior experience designing, implementing and managing donor-funded MCH/RH programs in developing countries; • Strong technical experience across several MCH/RH program areas including prevention and management of STIs; family planning; adolescent RH; post-abortion care/ post-abortion family planning; child survival; infant and young child feeding; nutrition; immunization; obstetric and newborn care and emergency obstetric and newborn care (EmOC); and community-based mobilization. • Experience in MCH/RH capacity building preferred; • Prior experience managing health programs for large international NGOs, preferably funded by USAID; • Previous long-term work experience in Africa on MCH/RH programs; • Proven track record of developing relationships and working successfully with major international health donors and potential partners; • Prior experience managing client relationships, reporting, work planning, financial management, and overall program implementation; • Excellent proposal writing skills and proven success in business development; • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external clients; • Strong financial/budget management skills; • Flexibility and ability to handle multiple tasks and work collaboratively with others; • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office Applications; • Willingness to travel to the Africa region up to 30%.
