Mid-Level Project Director

The IRIS Center at the University of Maryland, College Park (see ) is a key source of research and advisory services on issues involving institutional reform-changes in legal and economic policies that encourage economic growth and development of democratic institutions-for donors, governments, and civil society in developing and transition countries.   

IRIS seeks a full-time development specialist, with strong experience in international development, economic growth, poverty alleviation with strong research and project management experience.  The mid-level position (annual salary $55,000-70,000) is at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD, USA. 

Skill preferences: 

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research in developing countries
  • Provide advisory assistance in developing countries
  • Synthesize research and advisory assistance results
  • Lead multi-cultural teams
  • Forge successful collaborations among different professionals and organizations
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate programs, strategies, and policies on a collaborative basis
  • Manage development programs from the College Park office
  • Shape and carry out program communication and negotiation
  • Develop funding for research and advisory assistance activities

 

Background qualifications:

  • Eligible to work in the US (required)
  • Graduate degree in economics, development, political economy, political science, law, public administration, business administration, or other relevant discipline (PhD preferred).
  • Available for travel to developing and transition countries
  • Minimum three years of research and advisory assistance experience in developing and transition countries
  • Experience working closely with non-US professionals
  • Fluency and/or professional proficiency in multiple foreign languages preferred
  • Experience in fragile states preferred
  • Skill in developing funding for research and advisory assistance activities
