RTI International is seeking applicants for the role of Senior Technical Writer to serve as part of RTI’s Global Health Group (GHG). The Global Health Group is an expanding group at RTI which currently has a staff of 450 with work in over 20 countries, including two regional offices in Nairobi, Kenya and Bangkok, Thailand. GHG implements broad-based programs in HIV/AIDS, malaria prevention and vector control, neglected tropical disease control, reproductive health, maternal child health, health systems strengthening, health governance, health policy, and other related fields. The Senior Proposal Writer will provide support to the Global Health Group (GHG) by writing, editing, and producing (1) competitive proposals in response to solicited and unsolicited opportunities from governments, foundations and corporations and (2) technical papers and briefs to submit to professional and scientific journals. This position is based in Washington D.C. and is based in the Business, Marketing, and Communications Division. Responsibilities for Proposals: • Support and/or lead the writing, editing, formatting, and proofreading of technical proposal to solicited and unsolicited opportunities from donor organizations, governments, foundations and corporations including but not limited to: USAID, DFID, AusAID, Gates Foundation, Clinton Foundation, World Bank, etc. • Provide detailed and strategic analysis of solicitations, instructions and other proposal-related information. • In coordination with designated technical/regional team member, contribute to proposal design and the development of the technical approach. • Coordinate with RTI staff and partner organizations to ensure all required documents are completed and submitted based on the established timeline. • Research and writing corporate capabilities, technical fact sheets and past performance sections as needed and/or as time permits. • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Specialist to document project results, success stories, and tools for use in proposals, project briefs, etc . • Assisting in any other tasks/duties assigned. Responsibilities for Technical Documentation: • Support and/or lead the writing, editing, formatting, and proofreading of technical documents generated from research, evaluation, technical assistance, and/or policy advisement from GHG’s portfolio of international assistance projects. • Coordinate with RTI staff and partner organizations on the preparation, submission and review of technical documents. • Coordinate closely with the GHG’s communications, research and M&E units on preparation and submission of technical documents. • Assisting in any other tasks/duties as assigned. Qualifications/Requirements: • Master’s degree in public health, journalism, fine arts, communications or related field and at least 6 years of experience technical and grant writing required; • Prior experience in technical documentation targeting the area of global health; • Prior experience successfully leading the writing of technical proposals for USAID and other donor agencies; • Knowledge of USAID procurement process, cooperative agreements, and contracts; • Knowledge and understanding of several of GHG’s key areas of technical expertise: HIV prevention, malaria prevention and vector control, reproductive health, maternal/child health, nutrition, health systems strengthening; • Ability to evaluate and synthesize relevant scientific and health-related data or information accurately, and to work collaboratively with content area experts; • Proven flexibility to handle changing priorities and managing multiple projects and deadlines efficiently and without compromising quality. • Ability to motivate and collaborative within diverse teams to achieve significant goals; • Strong oral and written communications skills in English; additional fluency in one or more of the following languages would be an advantage: Spanish, French, or Arabic; • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office Applications; • Willingness and ability to travel internationally.
