Statistician - Philippines

IMSG is seeking a Statistician with experience in climate change or environmental science to work on a 3-year project in the Philippines focused on increasing the country’s resilience to climate change through improved natural resource management and conservation practices.

 

This position will work with a team to create and trial a toolkit to improve public awareness and knowledge of climate change adaptation activities. The team will also identify local awareness and knowledge capacity needs for formal training and workshops for local communities as well as government officials, and develop a comprehensive strategy for improving stakeholder awareness of climate change adaptation practices.

 

The Statistician will specifically be responsible for developing surveys, measuring and analyzing success indicators, generating and analyzing baseline measurements, providing statistical advice to team members and stakeholders, and producing complimentary and comparable data sets.

 

This position is contingent upon receipt of donor funding, and will commence in May 2012.

 

Desired Skills and Qualifications

-       PhD in Statistics or Climate Change, Environmental Science, or a related field with a significant statistical component

-       A minimum of 10 years experience working in the environmental/climate change field for governments or donor agencies; 20 or more years experience is preferred

-       Demonstrated experience and expertise in designing and conducting surveys and generating baseline measurements

-       Strong knowledge of the Philippines, rural areas in the country, and the region

-       Strong project management skills

-       Ability to work effectively with others on a team

-       English fluency required; working knowledge of or fluency in Tagalog is preferred

-       Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, especially in working across cultures

-       Currently located in the Philippines, preferably, or based in the region
