RTI International is seeking innovative leaders for a Vice President for Global Health Programs position to serve as a member of the senior leadership team for RTI’s Global Health Group (GHG). The Global Health Group is an expanding division at RTI which currently has a staff of 450 with work in over 20 countries, including two regional offices in Nairobi, Kenya and Bangkok, Thailand. Applicants should be reputable leaders in global health with expertise in one or more of the GHG’s core technical areas: HIV/AIDS, malaria prevention and vector control, neglected tropical disease control, reproductive health, maternal child health, health systems strengthening, health governance, health policy or health economics/ health financing. The candidate should have a proven track record of successfully managing large portfolios of global health programs across multiple regions. This position will report to the Executive Vice President for Global Health, and will be based at RTI’s headquarters in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Responsibilities: • Serves as Deputy Director for the Global Health Group, providing strategic technical and management assistance to the EVP for Global Health and providing direction and supervision to the Global Health Group staff in the RTP, Washington DC, and international offices in the absence of the EVP. • Leads the Global Health Group’s Regional (Africa, E&E, Asia, LAC) and Global Programs Divisions to implement projects and programs across a variety of technical areas. • Responsible for oversight and supervision to senior leaders consisting of Regional Program Directors and Global Project Directors. • Works with Regional Program Directors and Global Project Directors to develop annual strategic plans and budgets; ensures they are consistent with the Global Health Group’s technical and financial objectives; and monitors the implementation of the plans throughout the fiscal year. • Plays a leading role in the project review process proactively addressing project technical or management concerns within the GHG’s portfolio. • Monitors and evaluates field-based and global programs and projects to ensure they are implemented in accordance with donor and RTI corporate requirements. • Responsible for ensuring the successful completion of program and project deliverables and client satisfaction across all GHG programs. • Identify opportunities to apply tools, approaches, best practices, and lessons learned across GHG programs and projects. • Provides senior-level representation of RTI’s GHG with USAID, other multi-lateral and bilateral donors, strategic program partners and other stakeholders at high profile meetings, events and forums. • Reviews strategic GHG partnering decisions in consultation with GHG EVP, VP Business Development and VP Finance and Operations and participates in teaming/partnership discussions for high profile business development opportunities where appropriate. • Oversees Regional and Global Program Division inputs into business development activities; ensures that project tools, approaches, best practices and lessons learned from existing projects and programs are being adequately utilized. • Responsible for writing and/or leading technical proposals as needed. • Maintains ongoing liaison with donors, stakeholders, competitors, and partners in the global health community to stay abreast of any program implementation issues, technical innovations, and best practices in program management. Requirements: • Minimum of a Masters Degree in Public Health (MPH), Medical Degree, or related field; • Candidates must have 15-20 years of experience implementing global health programs across multiple regions; • 8-10 years of experience managing large-scale international health projects funded by USAID; prior experience managing large global projects preferred; • Experience implementing projects for other donors in the global health community preferred (CDC, DFID, AUSAID, GATES, etc); • Demonstrated experience writing and leading successful technical proposals for USAID or other donor contracts or grants; • Proven track record in building successful relationships with donors, partners, and stakeholders in the global health community; • Demonstrated success motivating and leading large teams in the implementation of major USAID projects; • Exceptional managerial experience, ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team to achieve success; experience supervising senior leaders desired; • Strong technical expertise in one or more of the following technical topics: HIV/AIDS; malaria; reproductive health; maternal child health; health systems strengthening; health policy; health economics / financing or other related field, preferably having conducted research and published extensively in the field; • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills; • Excellent skills in oral and written communications. Demonstrated skills at writing clearly and succinctly; • Strong knowledge of PEPFAR, the President’s Global Health and Malaria Initiatives and other major donor initiatives is required; • Flexibility and ability to handle multiple tasks and work collaboratively within a matrix-oriented environment; • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external clients; • Ability to travel frequently, at least 30%.
