The curious case of Afghanistan’s detained Emergency workers

After one week of detention without any formal charge, Afghan authorities released three Italians from the medical charity Emergency on Sunday. Reports differed about the fate of six Afghans who were also brought into custody. The incident has refocused attention on the security of aid workers in the Middle East and beyond.
