Washington after bin Laden’s death: Voices from the crowd on development aid

They came on foot, biked, parked their cars second row – many of them snapping pictures or waving the American flag just minutes after U.S. President Barack Obama’s surprise announcement Sunday (May 1) that al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden had been killed by special forces in Pakistan. As the midnight hour approached and the rest of Washington lay quiet, downtown became alive, filled with the sounds of chants and car horns.
