AFRICOM and the Militarization of Development

In February 2007, President George W. Bush announced plans to create the U.S. Africa Command as a way to have the military boost African development. The move remains controversial. Francis Fukuyama, international development program director at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, believes the trend to militarize development is dangerous and undermines the development mission.
