Coastal Zone Development and Cleanup Project in Albania
The main objective of the objective of the Albania Coastal Zone Development and Cleanup is to protect the country’s coastal and marine natural resources and promote sustainable tourism development.
This will be achieved through the following:
1) building the right incentives at local level for sustainable land use management;
2) strengthening the broader regulatory and enforcement framework for coastal zone management; and
3) supporting regional investment needs for improved land use and planning, improved environmental conditions and attracting private investments in sustainable tourism.
The World Bank (WB) estimates the total project cost at US$ 17,800,000.
**UPDATED, 28 April 2006:** The estimated total project cost has been revised to US$ 38.56 million (previously 17.8 million). Contributions are divided as follows:
- US$ 17.5 million from the IDA;
- US$ 5.71 million from the Government of Albania;
- US$ .95 million from the GEF;
- US$ 1.26 million from local communities;
- US$ 5.20 million from the European Commission;
- US$ 2.60 million from the Government of Austria;
- US$ 3.11 million from the Government of Netherlands; and
- US$ 2.23 million from the Government of Japan (PHRD Grants).
