The Government of the Republic of Zambia has applied for financing in the amount of US$ 30 million equivalent from the World Bank and Global Environment Facility toward the cost of the Increased Access to Energy and ICT Services Project, and it intends to apply part of the proceeds to payments for goods, works, related services and consulting services to be procured under this project.
Revenues from the Rural Electrification Authority will supplement this project.
The project will include the following components:
- Investments in Mini-hydro worth approximately US$ 5 million;
- Isolated and/or Grid extension to Farming Blocks worth approximately US$ 6 million;
- Isolated and/or Grid extension to Peri-Urban sites worth approximately US$ 3 million;
- Isolated and/or Grid extension to Mission sites worth approximately US$ 1 million;
- Isolated and/or Grid extension to District/Trading sites worth approximately US$ 5 million;
- Investments in PV systems worth approximately US$ 2.3 million;
- Investments in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) worth US$ 5 million; and
- Technical Assistance in form of Consultancy contracts worth approximately US$ 2.7 million.
