Japan, through the Japan Bank for International Cooperation and in partnership with the Asian Development Bank, has allotted an estimated US$1 billion to support projects promoting investments, tackling climate change, and facilitating regional integration and cooperation in Asian developing countries. According to information gathered by Devex, the projects shall involve construction of basic infrastructure including cross-country roads, execution of energy efficiency improvement projects, and technology transfer.

UPDATE, 14 April 2009: ADB Senior Finance Partnership Specialist Megumi Araki said that there are some potential projects for Central Asia that may be supported under this funding.

UPDATE, 28 July 2010: According to an ADB representative, a tender for capacity building for implementing private sector-led integration in South Asia is still pending approval.

According to Samuel Tumiwa, ADB principal planning and coordination specialist in-charge of the Asian Clean Energy Fund, the Japanese government committed US$90 million for the fund and only US$20 million has been disbursed to date. He expected funds to still be available for the next two to three years.
