In its efforts to save lives, the European Commission has allocated € 10 million (US$ 15.7 million) to help disaster-prone communities in Southeast Asia prepare for future catastrophes. This Disaster Preparedness of the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid Department (DIPECHO) decision will promote disaster risk reduction (DRR) measures, in line with the Hyogo Framework for Action 2005-2015.
UPDATE, 09 September 2010: The European Commission has approved 10 million euros for financing of disaster preparedness activities under the 2010 EU budget.
