The Government of Pakistan has obtained a credit from the World Bank for the Water Sector Capacity Building Project. Part of the proceeds of the Credit would be used for financing the consultancy services for preparation of Detailed Engineering, Tender Documents and Construction Supervision of Proposed Dasu Hydropower Project to be implemented by the Water and Power Development Authority, of the Ministry of Water and Power.
As per feasibility study, Roller Compacted Concrete Dam 233 m high with 536 m crest length is planned to be constructed 8 Km upstream from Dasu Town and 70 km downstream Diamer-Basha Dam in District Kohistan NWFP. An underground powerhouse is planned to house 8 Units of total Capacity of 4320 MW. Four Tailrace tunnels of 2.6 km length each will discharge the water back in to the Indus River. The annual energy generation would be 19,000 GWh. The WAPDA is planning to develop this project in appropriately defined stages.
The main objective of the proposed consultancy services is to support Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) in preparation of detailed design, bidding documents and PC-I, including engineering, economic, environmental and social studies and construction supervision of all works and activities included under the Dasu Hydropower Project. These works will be carried out according to international standards, which will form the basis for project appraisal by the World Bank and the Government of Pakistan.
