West Africa Regional Fisheries Project

The main objective of the West Africa Regional Fisheries Project is to increase the yield from marine fisheries resources in the region by curbing illegal fishing, improve the management of the resources, and increase the value and profitability of the fish resources.
The proposed project will have four main components:
Component 1: Support for good governance and the sustainable management;
Component 2: Support to reduce illegal fishing activities;
Component 3: Support to increase the benefits from fish resources; and
Component 4: Financing for project coordination, financial management, monitoring and evaluation.
The World Bank (WB) estimates the total project cost at US$ 134 million.

The project has been approved by the Board on 20 October 2009. The total project cost is estimated at US$ 56.3 million.
22 July 2009
The Board approval is expected on 24 September 2009. The project is estimated to cost at US$ 57 million.
