Chemonics International seeks a director of technical support for the USAID-funded Behavioral and Social Change Communication Program in Zambia. The program aims to develop sustainable human and institutional capacity for information, education, and communication/behavior change communication (IEC/BCC) across the areas of HIV/AIDS; malaria; family planning and reproductive health; and maternal, newborn, and child health. Responsibilities include: provide technical support and oversight in the implementation of activities across all program areas. The position will be based in Lusaka.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in health or a related field
- Experience in health communication, health education, health promotion, or the socio-behavioral sciences preferred
- Minimum eight years of relevant experience in public health in developing countries; experience in Zambia or southern Africa preferred
- Minimum five years of experience in a senior technical position for a large, complex public health or international development project
- Experience implementing large-scale IEC/BCC programs (including gender issues, operational research, youth outreach, and stigma reduction) strongly preferred
- Strong record of development, implementation, management, and evaluation of IEC/BCC campaigns, messages and materials in HIV/AIDS; malaria; family planning and reproductive health; and maternal, newborn, and child health
- Experience in sustainable capacity development among local partners and institutions for the design, implementation, management, and evaluation of IEC/BCC campaigns and activities
- Familiarity with USAID and U.S. government regulations preferred, particularly regarding branding and marking
- Experience in capacity building and IEC/BCC related to HIV/AIDS; malaria; family planning; reproductive health; and maternal, newborn, and child health
- Experience working collaboratively across technical disciplines
- Experience working with Ministry of Health
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, supervisory, and team-building skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to coordinate activities with officials from the host-country government, U.S. government, NGOs, and other agencies
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to travel extensively to program locations within Zambia
