The Axios Foundation (Axios) is dedicated to increasing access to health care in developing countries through innovative approaches, with a particular focus on improving health systems and building local capacity for treatment of chronic diseases. It has programs in 17 countries and offices in Nigeria, Tanzania, Ethiopia, China, Indonesia, Thailand, India and the US, and has extensive experience in a broad range of areas including health facility and health systems strengthening, drug logistics / supply chain management, health commodities procurement, laboratory strengthening, drugs access and donations, home based care, primary health care, and OVC, VCT and PMTCT programs. Axios is seeking to fill the new position of Director of Business Development, based in Washington DC to drive the identification and development of new business opportunities in Axios’ areas of strategic interest and strength. The new Director will be a member of the Axios senior management team, will focus primarily on potential clients and partners in the Washington area, and will have a major role in determining Axios Foundation’s business development strategy.

The following qualifications and experience are required:

  • Advanced degree such as an MBA, MPH, MHA, MD or PhD preferred
  • International reputation as an experienced, credible and strategic leader within the international global health community
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of public health experience, including HIV&AIDS, and including work with international implementing organizations
  • Proven track record in business development in the international health arena including program design, proposal writing, networking, partnership cultivation, and marketing
  • Experience working and networking with international donors (e.g. USAID, CDC, GFATM), major international NGOs working in the health arena; and other bilateral and multi-lateral development agencies operating in the international public health sector
  • Experience in leading and working with multi-lingual and multi-cultural staff
  • Financial management experience with knowledge of government contracting and proposal budget development
  • Exceptional oral and written communication, representational and presentation skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of ongoing international public health issues such as infectious diseases, chronic diseases, and public health systems
  • Experience living and working in the developing and emerging countries, particularly including Africa and Asia, preferred
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% is also required
  • Fluency in French preferred
