Hydropower Engineer

International Relief & Development (IRD) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization implementing development services and programs across a broad spectrum of regions and technical activities.  IRD works with a wide range of governments and international donor organizations in the implementation of targeted, cost effective humanitarian relief and development aid programs worldwide.

IRD is currently seeking a Hydropower Engineer for an upcoming USAID-funded engineering quality assurance, logistical support project in Afghanistan.  The incumbent for this position will be expected to review construction plans for practicability, availability of materials, accessibility, and suitability of specifications.  S/he will also work with contractors to ensure adherence to construction specifications, and anticipate problems that may impede completion.

The Hydro Power Engineer will provide engineering support covering a range of activities for the project. These activities, among others, will encompass solution driven engagements ranging from hydro-power generation design to project management and procurement through to organization optimization. The candidate will be expected to develop the necessary technical guidance to improve and expand hydro-power generation, as well as conduct workshops for both middle and senior management levels on a broad range of energy issues.

Required Experience:

-  15 years of relevant work experience, with at least 10 years of direct experience in engineering or the hydropower field;

-  Previous experience & knowledge of managing complex projects in the US overseas;

-  Previous experience working on projects in developing countries is highly desirable;

-  A Professional Engineering (P.E.) license or equivalent is preferred but not required;

-  Ability to express engineering and scientific judgment clearly and concisely in writing and orally;

- A BS degree is required for this position (a graduate degree is preferred).
