Dem accuses Trump UN nominee of lying and 'profound cowardice'

The White House nominee for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, took unfriendly fire from Democratic senators on Tuesday, facing questions about his honesty and integrity in a highly charged confirmation hearing that offered fresh insights into U.S. plans to remake the world body in President Donald Trump’s vision.

The former Republican congressman and U.S. national security adviser told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee he would work to refocus the U.N.’s mission on ending wars, saying over the decades it had “drifted from its core mission of peacemaking.”

“I’m confident under this president’s leadership, we can continue to spread peace and prosperity, and I’m confident we can make the U.N. great again,” he told the lawmakers.
