This project was formally “Management and Improvement of Foreign Trade Project in Nicaragua”.
The main objective of the Management and Improvement of Foreign Trade Project in Nicaragua is to contribute to the use of commercial opportunities through the strengthening of management capacity of foreign trade and export and investment promotion. The four major components of the project are: -Strengthen management capacity in administration of agreements and export negotiations; -Enhance technical capacity in export and investment promotion; -Encourage small and medium business exporters; and -Design and implement a strategy of circulation, participation and consultation. The total cost of the project is US$ 6.5 million, out of which the Inter-American Development Bank will provide US$ 5 million.

Mr. Jaime Granados, the IDB Team Leader, said that the list of procurement staff has yet to be released but will be ready in two months. The reason for this is that the project has just been approved by the National Assembly and IDB is waiting for the Government of Nicaragua to include the activities into the national budget for execution. It is estimated that this will be operational by mid-2010.

This operation was approved by the Board in 23 November 2009. The estimated total cost of the project is now 10.437 million.
