Job Description
The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is a U.S.-based not-for-profit institution working “to conduct and apply behavioral and social science research to improve people’s lives and well-being, with a special emphasis on the disadvantaged.” Since 1946, AIR has worked with U.S. and international partners in over 80 countries to ensure that research translates into effective and successful programs in the areas of education, health, and workforce development.

The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is recruiting for an anticipated project focused on behavior change communications related to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) in Jordan. Actual responsibilities and qualifications may change with the emergence of the procurement documentation from USAID.
 
Responsibilities
Specific Responsibilities
The following responsibilities are illustrative for this position. Other responsibilities will be identified as needed to meet the requirement of the project.
•Provide overall leadership and vision for the project
•Oversee project planning and implementation
•Assure project performance towards results
•Represent project to USAID, Government of Jordan, implementing partners, and other stakeholders
•Assure project is aligned with government strategies related to SRH
•Serve as AIR’s senior in-country representative, to ensure that staff and activities adhere to AIR policies and regulations
•Work in close collaboration with the home office Project Manager
•Develop and implement annual work plans, budgets, and monitoring and evaluation plans
•Monitor project performance
•Oversee reporting processes, including routine reports to USAID
•Manage and supervise field office staff – both technical and financial
•Determine needs for and coordinate short term technical assistance
•Ensure all field-based deliverables are met, and that they meet the highest of quality standards
•Mentor project staff

Qualifications
•Master’s degree in Public Health, International Development, or other relevant discipline. Ph.D. preferred.
•At least 10 years (COP) / 5 years (DCOP) senior-level experience in management of complex projects that include a focus on SRH, social and behavior change communications (SBCC), or other related health topics.
•Experience in family planning, SRH, SBCC or health programs.
•Ability to perform at a senior policy level, demonstrated by previous experience in leading the development and implementation of international projects, including demonstrated ability to negotiate and influence policy and decision making with senior government, NGO, and other stakeholder representatives.
•Ability to engage with and facilitate change among community and religious leaders
•Familiarity with USG regulations and administrative procedures in the implementation of donor-assisted project.
•Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with senior-level colleagues within USAID, NGOs, other implementing projects/programs, and private sector institutions.
•Demonstrated past experience managing complex projects
•Experience working in Jordan is preferred.
•Good writing skills
•Fluency in English
