Christian Kingombe joined UNCTAD on the 26th of May 2015 Economic Affairs Officer (P4 Step V) on a short-term staff position in the Least Developed Countries Section, Research & Policy Analysis Branch, in the Division for Africa, Least Developed Countries and Special Programmes. Christian Kingombe left the African Development Bank (AfDB) on the 12th of May, where he was the Chief Regional Integration & Infrastructure officer in the Division of Regional Infrastructure (NEPAD) within the NEPAD, Regional Integration and Trade Department (ONRI). Prior to that he was Chief Regional Integration & Trade Officer at the AfDB’s Trade Division. He has a Ph.D. in Applied Economics from Imperial College London & University of London. Before joining the Bank Christian Kingombe worked for the International Economic Development Group (IEGD) at the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) in London. He was also a Visiting Research Fellow at the IHEID in Geneva and an Academic Visitor at the Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE), Economics Department, University of Oxford. He has also been a Research Associate of the OECD Development Centre in Paris while being a Visiting PhD Researcher at ENSAE-CREST at ParisTech (Paris Institute of Technology), France.

I am a senior technical specialist, strategist, program designer and researcher focusing on child protection, HIV and AIDS, gender-based violence (GBV), early childhood development (ECD), maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH), and the use of digital technology (information and communications technology or “ICT”), with a geographic focus on sub-Saharan Africa, Southern Asia and Southeast Asia. Substantive areas of expertise include integrated multi-sectoral programming and case management, community-based approaches, orphans and vulnerable children affected and infected by HIV (OVC), prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT), reintegration and reunification of separated children, economic strengthening, and analyzing how ICT can be used for health, protection, women’s empowerment, sexual and gender-based violence, integrated case management and policy analysis. I have authored research reports and discussion papers on the use of ICT for health, child protection and development, including how ICT can be used to facilitate integrated service delivery, data for decision-making, and addressing social/cultural norms.
