Agribusiness Support Project (ASF)

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Agribusiness Project (UAP) is an initiative of the USAID in collaboration with the Agribusiness Support Fund (ASF). The project aims at enhanced competiveness of agricultural value chains in Pakistan with a focus on horticulture and livestock including dairy, meat and fisheries. Since Pakistan’s economy is agrarian in nature, at primary, secondary and tertiary levels of production, the overriding objective of USAID's Agribusiness Project is to support and create improved conditions for broad-based economic growth in Pakistan and to create employment opportunities for poverty alleviation.

The Project aims to support employment generation and economic growth by developing a competitive and sustainable agribusiness sector in Pakistan and specifically focuses on the following areas: horticulture and livestock. Over a 5 year period, the project aims to create:

  • Create 1.3 million full time equivalent jobs and substantially raise incomes;
  • Launch technical assistance programs targeting 62,500 farmers and 2,500 agribusiness ;stakeholders;
  • Leverage USD 340 million by the private sector through the provision of cost sharing support to 45,000 Farmer Enterprise Group members, 100 associations and cooperatives, 250 individual and corporate farmers, 40 R&D and extension providers and 140 SMEs and 8 Lead companies.
