BHP Billiton, a leading global resources company with a commitment to sustainability and health, has joined the Global Fund’s Corporate Champion program through its UK-based charitable entity BHP Billiton Sustainable Communities.
In December 2013, BHP Billiton Sustainable Communities contributed US$10 million to support malaria efforts in Mozambique for the period 2014-2016, to reach universal malaria prevention coverage by 2014, and to maintain those levels every year with additional interventions.
The contribution to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria brings BHP Billiton Sustainable Communities’ commitment to Mozambique to close to US$30 million over five years. In addition, BHP Billiton Sustainable Communities is supporting maternal and child health, improved access to clean water and sanitation, and sustainable livelihoods through the support of small scale farmers.
The Global Fund Corporate Champions Program is an integrated platform for companies to make a significant financial commitment to the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. These companies recognize that investing through the Global Fund's performance-based grant-making model is an efficient and impactful way to sustain healthy communities around the globe.
