Improving Working Conditions and Efficiency in the Asian Coffee Growing Industry

Tchibo and GIZ partner to improve labour practices at partner organizations in the coffee growing industry through consulting and coaching for change.

Change Management

Through the project, '‘Worldwide Enhancement of Social Quality', Tchibo and GIZ have joined to ensure that local production complies with labour and social standards. To achieve this goal, a German mediation expert trained 18 local coaches in Bangladesh, China and Thailand. Working together with top and middle-management representatives as well as with the general workforce and Tchibo buyers, these coaches have devised plans to initiate changes in some 40 companies. Because the ideas are generated in the company themselves, they are accepted more readily and on a wider scale. Today a network of trainers is available to empower other companies to use this concept. Furthermore, a project website allows interested companies and organisations to access the experience and training materials collected to date. The completed project was followed by a post/project care phase which ended in 2012.
