Providing Humanitarian Relief Around the World

As part of its commitment to responsible global citizenship, Abbott and the Abbott Fund work with trusted partner organizations to respond to disasters around the world.

Disaster Relief Program

Access to health care is a serious challenge when natural disasters strike, with many people unable to receive proper medical care or visit a nearby medical facility, even though access to healthcare is an immediate need in such situations.

Most recently, the Abbott Fund provided $350,000 in cash to the Philippine Red Cross, CARE and Direct Relief in response to Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, and $100,000 in critically needed products, such as antibiotics, oral rehydration solutions and nutritionals to address immediate and longer-term recovery needs. In 2012, Abbott and the Abbott Fund granted more than $870,000 in cash and more than $570,000 in product donations to assist those here in the U.S. impacted by Superstorm Sandy, wildfires, tornadoes and flooding.

Abbott Fund is providing $3 million (245 million yen) to support immediate relief efforts in response to the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The Abbott Fund donation will be provided to the Japanese Red Cross through the American Red Cross, and longstanding global relief partner AmeriCares.
